Does the animals in the zoo suffer from zoochosis? (Zoochosis is the term used to describe the stereotypical behaviour of animals in captivity. Stereotypic behaviour is defined as a repetitive, invariant behaviour pattern with no obvious goal.

Perhaps some of the monkeys, as they're alone, but the tigers have a ginormous enclosure and can be witnessed playing with their toys and swimming. The lemurs seem happy as well.

There is a small building when you first enter the park that sells drinks and a few snacks. Very basic.

In your car in the parking lot.

Free and worth every penny. It's nice to have a cheap attraction where you can spend as little (or as much) time as you like. Plants are at least as much an attraction as the animals. Very run down, but a nice mix of animals and flowers.

Small but very well organized and the space is used efficiently. The animals are all clearly healthy and the zoo has put in considerable effort to care for them. As you enjoy the fauna, don't neglect the flora. There is no admission cost, but donations are appreciated. No matter where you may be on the Big Island, it's worth the trip. Definitely recommended.

A small, fun zoo. Takes about 2 hours to leisurely walk through. There's no cost, so didn't mind paying $5 for the simple guidebook, which was helpful for knowing where to go and what you were seeing.

Beyond incredible place for the family. FREE. It's small, but relaxed, geared towards family's. Cute benches for kids, BIG playground and picnic area. DON'T WALK ON GRASSY SLOPES. it's a rain forest and the ground is slippery. I speak from experience LOL. if you have kids, plan on at least 4 hours and bring a picnic lunch. They will love it. They really do have a white tiger.

I think this place needs more visiters to show some love. Admission is a donation basis but I recommend the 5 dollar self guide booklet it has much better info than the free map. There is a huge play area for younger kids and a few spots to get out of the sun. All of the animals looked healthy and well taken care of, but some of the cages looked in need of maintenance. Overall I feel like the place was a bit small (I've only been to a few zoo's ) so plan on not more than 2 hours with kids in tow or an hour 15 for a few adults. The staff seemed quite happy and polite. For me there was a lacking of educational side shows or posters or something.

A small yet AMAZING zoo. We had a blast. The kids play area is such a fun place for parents to take a break for a bit.

This place is absolutely gorgeous from the manicured paths around the zoo to the cute animal themed benches and beautifully painted bathroom walls. This is a must visit if you have kids or even if you don’t. We had a lot of fun wandering around reading about the animals and observing the areas set up for them. You can tell the people taking care of the animals are good to them and they are friendly about answering questions too. Our favorite was Max the macaw that screamed “have a cookie” at us.

This is to my knowledge the only zoo on the big island. It's free and the children really enjoyed seeing the animals, a nice collection of birds and reptiles in addition to the bigger attractions. Compared to other zoos, its fairly small and feels rather outdated with enclosures that lack interest for the animals and aren't consistently designed for engagement. We had a good visit though and I appreciate the donors and volunteers who keep this place going.

“A hidden gem” and must do in Hilo. Follow the paved paths winding through this zoo and discover birds, primates, tigers, and much more. Pack a lunch and plan to eat and relax on of the many detailed themed benches. An all around wonderful place to spend a few hours. My son enjoyed the large playground as well. Donation based admission.
